Abstract

The problem of stunting occurs in childhood which has an impact on morbidity, death, impaired physical growth, impaired mental development, cognitive and impaired motor development. The aim of the study was to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Selat Besar Village, Bilah District Downstream Labuhan Batu Regency. Analytical observational research design with a cross sectional approach. The research was conducted in Selat Besar Village, Bilah Hilir District, Labuhan Batu Regency. The research was conducted from January to May 2023. The population consisted of 441 mothers with toddlers aged 12-59 months. The sample size using the Taro Yamane formula was 82 mothers of toddlers. Sampling used Random Sampling technique. The results of the study with the Chi-square test showed that there was a relationship between clean water sources, hand washing behavior, environmental sanitation, history of infection and maternal nutritional status during pregnancy with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. Clean water (p=0.026), environmental sanitation (p=0.001), hand washing behavior (p=0.000), history of infection (p=0.001) and maternal nutritional status during pregnancy (p=0.004). The most dominant factor influencing the incidence of stunting in toddlers is hand washing behavior (p=0.001).
